PARKSIDE VILLAGE PARKETTE
Mississauga
Alexander Budrevics and Associates Limited was commissioned as the prime consultant for design refinement and development of the Parkside Village Parkette in Mississauga’s ever growing City Centre. Initially intended as outdoor space designated for homeowners of Amacon’s recently constructed townhouse blocks, fronting Parkside Village Drive, our team recognized the parkette’s potential to serve a greater purpose and reach an expanded group of people. With the site situated between a network of residential neighbourhoods and City Centre’s office buildings, education facility and commercial establishments, our design approach seized unique opportunity to merge otherwise disjointed private and public spaces.
By bridging a municipal storm channel, intersecting a primary hydro corridor and connecting to the adjacent City owned Zonta Meadows park, our team was challenged to converged parcels of the properties and form a cohesive parkette plan. Our service throughout the design process also facilitated the logistics of collaborative development between Mississauga and Amacon. This project motivated our design team to create a landscape that would embody “integration and “flow”, while effectively highlighting the new primary pedestrian route. ABAL’s distinctive solution became our expression of movement, as three undulating ribbons of coloured artificial turf that playfully emulate waves and a current for travel.
